Keeping Inventory of your Moving Boxes
Inventory is an important tool to keep track of your moving boxes that contain your valuable and irreplaceable household items. This inventory takes time, and should not be attempted lightly, but will be the key to organizing your new household, and to any future claims against the moving company.
;This inventory should contain the number of moving boxes and the contents of each and every box this inventory should be completed prior to packing and be as accurate as possible.
To complete a packing inventory it will take time as you pack, and inventories are more than a job for one person. One or two should be packing, and one person taking inventory of what is going to be in each moving box. It is a good idea to make a list of what is in each box. Include one copy of this list inside the box at the very top, as well as one list with you while you move. This will be an important tool if you are required to make an insurance claim.
The value of the items should be noted on the copy of the inventory. Values are helpful, but better than that is receipts and pictures when items are large, expensive, and difficult to replace. Some find it helpful to compile a dossier with pictures, prices and shape of their belongings.
Not only will this be helpful for insurance purposes, but it will be of great assistance when you are unpacking boxes and looking for that one certain item. If you are properly organized locating that one item you require will become simple.
When a moving company is hired an inventory will be taken of boxes and large items. At this point, the items inside the boxes are overlooked. There is no note taken of contents. Taking note of the contents is up to you, the customer, after all they are your belongings!
