It is very convenient to obtain an online quote from a moving company. While this online quote or telephone quote gives you a rough estimate it does not take into account any moving supplies or moving boxes the movers will need to complete your move. An online quote is only accurate to a certain degree, an online quote does not take into account the boxes, and bags stored in closets, basements, attics or any other nook and cranny filled with items in your home.
The best way to obtain a moving quote is to have a professional come to your home. At this time the moving professional will look into closets, under beds, in cupboards, attics and basements. Only than, will you receive a true moving cost quote. It is these little items that must be packed, and that fill moving boxes, as well as large pieces of furniture that create a higher moving fee.
A moving company cannot charge you for a non binding estimate or a quote. This is an estimates cost that does not bind you, the client to the moving company. These estimates must be written accurately describe shipping and services (including moving supplies)
It is important, as with any contract or estimate that you read it completely, prior to signing! If you have questions, ask! The moving company is required to explain each aspect of the estimate to the customer.
The company is to keep a copy of this estimate, and it is a good idea that you do so, as well. This copy must be attached to the bill of lading. This estimate is very important. Ensure that all items are included in the estimate. If a mover feels that more items have been included after the estimate they have the right to refuse you service. For one year after the move, it is important that you keep all records including the estimate, bill of lading and receipts from the move. These documents become very important should you have a claim to file.
