Step by Step Moving Guide
Moving is a process, and as with any other process it is good to have a guide. This guide will assist you in moving with ease and create harmony within those moving boxes.
6-8 Weeks before you move, you should;
- Take an inventory of all things in your home that need to be moved
- Use a notebook to keep track of any and all moving lists, receipts and plans
- Begin to research moving companies, and plan appointments to get estimates
- Choose a moving company
- Determine if you require additional moving insurance
- Arrange for the transfer of medical, dental and school records
- Organize important documents into a portable lockbox, not to be packed
4 Weeks before you move, you should;
- Contact utility companies and arrange for the termination of services for the moving date
- Make travel reservations, plan for travel
- Change addresses with companies, and friends
- Arrange to have the family vet up to date on vaccinations
- Keep packing up moving boxes using quality moving supplies such as stretch and bubble wrap to prevent damage.
- Be in touch with the moving company to confirm the date for the final time
- Begin an inventory of items that will be moved on the moving truck
2 Weeks before you move, you should;
- Pack up outdoor rooms such as garages, or storage sheds into your moving boxes. Dispose of chemicals
- Label each of your packing boxes with what is inside of them using a paper that stapled to outside of box or write list on box.
- Have a garage sale with the items that are not going to join you on your move. You can even use your moving boxes as bins for your garage sale items.
- Begin to empty fridges, freezers and pantry items
On your moving day, you should;
- Pack an essentials box that will come with you to the new house
- Check all documents required for the move
- Defrost and clean all large appliances
- Dissemble furniture, and prepare it to be loaded
- Check all paperwork before signing the bill of lading
- Do one final check of the house
You are officially moved, congratulations! Pack your important moving box into the car with you and venture to your new home!
