How To Pack Large Items
Back to Articles
There are techniques to ensure that large items can be prepared for a move without harm to the item. These items are often not uniform and wont fit in regular moving boxes and are more at risk to become damaged.
For example, a Sofa should be packed with moving supplies such as moving blankets, and packing tape. All surfaces should be covered to decrease the risk of damage. Sofas should be moved while standing up, and be put to one side of the moving truck.
Tables should be covered with moving supplies such as packing blankets on each surface. Should be dissembled, and moved flat. Table legs are to be packed together, and can be rolled inside of a carpet for ease of moving. Ensure that all hardware stays with the item.
Shelves should be taken apart, and all hardware should be places in a lockable plastic bag and taped to the Item. Do not apply tape to wood, or other delicate surfaces. If the tape is on the item for a period of time it can easily damage the item. Try using our stretch wrap moving supplies which will wrap and protect the product without getting stuck to it.
Antiques should be packed with individual requirements. Antiques are something that should be preserved, and whether with bubble wrap or moving boxes special care should be taken when packing. If you are hiring movers be sure to make the company aware of the antique or valuable nature of the item.
Mirrors should be packed in appropriate boxes after being covered with bubble wrap. Moving boxes created for mirrors, and fine art are flat and double packed to ensure preservation.
Sculptures should be wrapped in packing material and packed last on the moving truck.
Mattresses should be covered while moving for sanitary reasons. Many moving supplies websites such as onestopmovingboxes.com sell mattress covers which can be used on the mattress and box spring.
Televisions are best moved in original packaging. Although original packaging can be irritating to hold on to for a long period of time it is best to use original packaging as to avoid damages.
