The Proper Way to Pack Moving Boxes
There are proper ways to pack moving boxes to ensure that the objects within stay safe. Each of your cardboard boxes should be packed with care to ensure that the item arrives safely at your new home.
Objects should be wrapped in moving supplies such as bubble wrap and formed tight to each other within the box. It is helpful that should the box contain fragile items to insert an extra layer of bubble wrap to secure, and strengthen the tightness of the box and to give extra cushion.
Heavier items within the moving boxes should be packed at the bottom of that box. The items should than be placed from the heaviest to the lightest, towards the top of the box.
The box should not exceed fifty pounds, although if it does it should be marked as heavy. Moving boxes that exceed fifty pounds are a risk to those who carry them to sustain an injury.
There is a good trick to packing heavy items: the heavier the item, the smaller the moving boxes. This will ensure that the movers will be able to move the item with ease.
There should be no empty spaces within a moving box. It is important the box be filled to each edge to prevent breakage. Foam pieces or crumpled paper make the best space fillers, as does rolled bubble wrap.
When packing fragile items such as china, or crystal be sure to line the bottom of the moving box, as well as the sides with protective bubble wrap, or paper.
Lastly, when each item is packed into the box top it with a layer of bubble wrap, packing paper or foam pieces. Close the moving boxes and seal edges with packing tape. Packing tape is crucial, and more efficient than masking tape. Packing tape is gummed and high grade for professional use, as well as waterproof.
