We moved to a bigger house late last year. I was running around like a mad dog getting everything done but in the process, I managed to learn some valuable lessons on moving. Here, I would like to share with you on how to save on moving supplies which can turn out to be a huge expense if you’re not careful. I have to thank my neighbors and friends as well who helped me with some of these ideas and took it upon themselves to be my helper while I was moving.
Moving boxes are a major moving supply that you will need to store away your things and the ones that you will be taking with you to your new home. Boxes for moving come in all shapes and prices. I saved a lot of money by getting most if not all from my neighbors, the nearby stores and the hypermarket, where I normally shop. A friend of mine took me to a liquor shop to get some cardboard boxes as it throws away the boxes in which the bottles come in as they don’t need it anymore after that. What a find! In the end, I even had extra boxes which I turned into cash at the local recycling booth located near my house.
You can also save on moving supplies such as packing tape, markers and ropes by either purchasing it in bulk or like me, just ask each of your friends to bring one item each when they come to help you pack. Trust me, this is the much cheaper option and your friends can ask you the same favor back when it is their time to move. It can also be a fun experience, packing with your friends and family as items in your household probably hold a story for each of them and it will be a good time to reminisce.
