Packing & Boxes

Monday, May 10th, 2010

537547_open_boxBulky items like pillows, duvets, bedding and toys can be packed in a very large box designed to carry light weight items. Be careful not to overload these moving boxes as they can become very heavy to pick up or move and may break or buckle while in transit.

Expensive or rare paintings, glass mirrors or glass tops for furniture can be transported in boxes which are specifically designed with divisions and extra padding to ensure they are safe in transit. These moving boxes also carry more weight than an average box to prevent the items from falling out through the bottom.

If you are very particular about your bed and mattress then make sure you use the mattress boxes (or plastic mattress covers) that come in single, three quarter, double, queen and king size. These moving boxes will prevent your beds from picking up dust and protect them from nicks, tears and cuts during transit.

Probably the best invention is the wooden crates which are a sturdy and hard type of box made from wood that can be made up to suit your measurements. This is a perfect box to transport your antique or glass table tops, trophies, chandeliers or any other bulky, irreplaceable items.

The range of moving boxes have been designed to help you make your move easy and pleasant, and will assist you in keeping your cool while unpacking in your new home.

Finding Moving Boxes

Monday, May 10th, 2010

1080177_magnifying_glassUse the Internet to search for people selling second hand boxes that are in a good condition.  This is perfect as all you have to do is pick up the phone, negotiate a good price and then pick them up. Make sure you check the condition of the cardboard boxes before handing over any money; you don’t want to land up with a pile of unusable moving boxes that you will have to throw away.

Walmart offers an inexpensive option for boxes too. They sell boxes at a reasonable price and you can get all the tape, marking pens and bubble wrap that you will need when packing. Bear in mind to keep a look out for boxes that have tears, weak points or dampness as these boxes are usually weakened and will break or collapse when full.

Buying boxes to pack your precious possessions doesn’t need to break the bank if you are well prepared and start planning ahead of time. Look around your home and decide what kind of moving boxes of what size and shape you will need to make the moving experience a little easier. This will help you to look for the right moving boxes that you could find a lot cheaper than buying them from a moving company. Summer Moving Tips, Part 2

Monday, May 10th, 2010

644133_sandalsFlat, practical, comfortable shoes that will keep your feet cool are an absolute must when moving in the summer heat. You will probably have to do a lot of walking while carrying moving boxes and furniture so wearing flat shoes will help your feet distribute the extra weight you are carrying. Flat shoes will also help you with keeping your balance without having to continually look down at your feet. Most of your body heat is expelled through your head and your feet so wearing open type shoes like sandals will help your body keep cool.

Taking regular breaks of about fifteen minutes every one and a half hours will give your body the chance to stop generating heat and your body will cool down faster. These breaks will also give you a chance to gather your thoughts and focus your mind on what needs to be done next.  Try eating fruit like apples or bananas or a natural juice to keep your sugar levels up and remain energized throughout the day.

Spend a little extra time marking the moving boxes as you pack them; this will make it much easier to place the right box in the right room when you arrive at your new home. You will also save a lot of energy that you would have used looking for something if the boxes were not marked.

Moving in the summer heat need not be an exhausting experience if you follow these hints and tips. It is all worthwhile when you wake up the next morning in your new home feeling energized and refreshed.

Summer Moving Tips, Part 1

1279018_sunset_in_franceMoving is a very stressful experience at the best of times but moving in the heat of summer can be very uncomfortable. Keep these hints and tips in mind while packing your stuff with moving supplies and unpacking those moving boxes and rearranging your furniture.

Keeping hydrated is extremely important in the summer heat. Your body has a built in “air conditioner” system called perspiration. The skins pores open up and release the heat which builds up inside your body. This is a very efficient system but it needs lots of liquids to keep it running, just as most air conditioning systems need a water cooling system. Drinking about half a cup of water, which is equivalent to 125ml, every half an hour will keep your system hydrated and fuel your built in air conditioner. Try to avoid drinking large quantities of water as your body will only use what it needs and the excess will make you keep running to toilet.

Dress in cool and comfortable clothing, preferably natural materials like cotton. Naturally made materials will absorb your perspiration and will keep the air flowing over your skin which helps your body keep cool. You will add to your frustration if you have to stop what you are doing to pull the strap of your top up or rescue your falling pants. Dig out that “old faithful” outfit from the bottom of your cupboard so you don’t have worry about tears and snags.

Types of Moving Boxes

Monday, May 10th, 2010

890371_boxesProbably the most frustrating part of moving is trying to fit all your precious items collected over many years, into odd sized boxes. Add to this the extra padding of bubble wrap or newspaper to keep your fragile items from breaking, and you have a lot of moving boxes which only have three or four items in. Thanks to the new technology and some company’s innovative genius, you can now choose the right boxes, made the right size for the right items.

There are moving boxes made of thicker materials that will hold all your heavy goods like canned foods, books, power tools or kitchen appliances. These boxes are sturdy and are designed to hold a lot more weight than boxes made of normal thickness.

Cutlery and crockery can be safely transported in moving boxes which are especially divided to keep them separated during transport. These divisions stop the crockery and cutlery from accidentally banging together, which could cause them to crack or break. These types of boxes can also be used for other fragile items like lamps, vases or any light appliances.

There is no need for your clothing to get all dusty, dirty and wrinkled anymore with a portable wardrobe moving boxes. You can take your hanging clothes straight off the rail and re-hang them in the portable wardrobe boxes. The same can be done with your folded clothes, underwear and socks in the horizontal portable wardrobe moving boxes which is especially designed to carry the weight of your clothing. The portable wardrobe box seals tightly which prevents the soiling of your clothing and is carried upright so nothing rolls around. You can easily hang curtains, draperies, table cloths on the rail inside this box too.

Affordable Moving Boxes

1193021_dark_dollar_2Buying moving boxes and moving supplies from a mover company can be very expensive which could make your moving experience a delicate budgeting exercise. If you don’t want to land up paying for your move for months to come, then use these ideas to save some money when buying moving boxes.

Planning ahead will encourage you to start asking friends and family to keep the boxes that come with any new items that they buy. T.V. and P.C. boxes work well for light weight bulk items like pillows and light toys. Small boxes like the kind that you get your vegetables in, work nicely for picture frames or small paintings, as well as CDs, DVDs and any old LPs lying around.  If you are lucky, you might be able to pick up some plastic or wooden crates which can be used to pack any fragile items like crockery, ornaments and vases.

Keep your eye out for any new comers into the neighborhood. Your new neighbors will have to start unpacking at some point and this could be the perfect opportunity to take around some fresh muffins and introduce yourself too. You could ask them to please let you know when they have a few moving boxes you can collect, that way you are helping them to make space and get rid of the empty boxes and moving supplies they are finished with. You can get these boxes from them at a cheap price.

Make a fun game for you and your children to play while driving to school. Tell them that if they see any boxes lying next to rubbish bins on the street, they may stop and pick them up. Reward them with a sweet or even give them 5c for every box they see that you can use.
