On moving day, have your friends return to help you pack the truck. Begin with the room that is farthest distance from your truck. Stack each item with large items on the bottom and small or fragile items on top. If you’re using professional moving boxes, you will not have to worry about the boxes bending. By packing the truck this way, you’ll keep all the items from each room together in the location of the truck. When you unpack at your new location, the boxes can easily stay together.

Unpacking

When you unpack your boxes, make sure that you unpack each room, one at a time. Organize each room before moving on to another room to prevent things getting out of hand and overwhelming. Once done with one room, break down the boxes and store them for future use. Professional moving boxes can be used again and again.

Storing

Store your packing materials in a dry location because humidity can ruin the material the moving boxes are made from. Avoid placing them in your attic or basement. Find an empty space in a closet or under your bed to keep them away from moisture.

Moving doesn’t have to be as stressful as you’ve heard if you simply follow these tips. Remember to always purchase professional moving boxes because they will provide you with the most security.

It can cause added stress and pressure to your life because of all the details. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose sight of the big picture. Follow the following steps to make your move as easy as possible:

Buy Packing Materials

Before you try to organize yourself, take an inventory of how many moving boxes and other materials you think you’ll need. Purchase a few more boxes per room than you estimate because you will move likely underestimate. Buy only professional moving boxes and packing materials to avoid cheap and unsafe moving supplies. After purchasing your moving supplies, place enough in each room.

Invite Friends to Help

Don’t pack by yourself, but ask for help instead. It’s easy to try to do it all on your own, but in the long run you’ll be better off and less stressed if you ask friends and family to help you. Assign each friend to a particular room and point out any extra-care items before they start packing.

Pack Each Room

Pack each room as it is. Don’t try to re-organize before packing. Label each moving box by room and then underneath place a description of the boxes contents. When you unpack at your new location you can determine where you want to put your items.

If you’re trying to save some cash and you’re moving your home yourself, an essential aspect of the move will be the moving boxes. Although moving boxes may seem like an obvious requirement to move, many people don’t take the time to research and invest in them.

Moving boxes should be purchased from a moving box company. The temptation to use old cardboard boxes from a retail store may be present, but don’t give in. Those types of boxes are not intended for reuse or to carry your priceless items. Using these types of boxes for moving can cause harm to you and your stuff.

Moving boxes are made to carry your belongings in a sturdy and padded moving box. They come in various shapes and sizes and may be used more than once. After you move your home, you can keep your boxes stores for future projects or to lend to a friend to help with a move.

Choosing professional moving boxes will provide you with the peace of mind needed to transport your personal items from one location to another. These boxes will also be easier to stack in the moving truck, providing greater safety so that the boxes don’t’ fall in the move.

Some of these are just a pain to pack in moving boxes, others actually don’t fit.

Mattresses can be a pain to move. Obviously they don’t fit in a moving box. Getting them dirty or greasy is one of the largest concerns homeowners have when moving them. Buying a good mattress cover will keep it clean, and should protect it from harm too. Department stores usually sell partial mattress covers, but sometimes they have full mattress covers. However, experience with department store mattress covers will usually prove them to be flimsy: quickly tearing or breaking. They are not a good choice for moving, being for short term mattress protection from bedwetting or similar problems. A mattress cover specific for moving isn’t priced much higher than a department store mattress cover, but will prove to be much stronger. They are also generally available in more sizes. (Most full mattress covers are for children’s beds, and availability of queen and king size beds can be slim to none when looking in department stores.) A mattress cover specifically made for moving can be saved and used for any future moves.

For a long distance move, it would be a good idea to leave the moving pads on the different appliances or furniture for its long ride in the moving van. This is especially true of things that could be easily scratched or dented. Examples are: kitchen tables, coffee tables and dressers. If taping a moving pad or pads to a wooden item, make sure to do it in a way that the moving pad(s) will be tightly secured without sticking the tape to any part of the wood. Tape on wood can result in some of the varnish coming off, or in a large sticky section on the wood which is hard to remove.

Make sure your packing boxes are clearly labeled to avoid any confusion when you’re unpacking. Keep your moving supplies organized and in the same location during the packing phase.

Double up moving pads to use as a “floor cover” when moving furniture over wood floors. This will prevent the floor from scratching when something must be drug across the floor. Carrying, rather than dragging, the furniture is generally the best way to go, especially when trying to keep the condition of any type of floor at its best. For a great move, use common sense and the right materials.

Using the right kind of moving boxes can make your move easy. Moving supplies are essential in preparation for moving. If you need moving boxes or moving supplies, try online resources because they’re typically cheaper.

After being sure to have good moving help, there are certain things to use too keep the houses from being damaged. These can also keep the furniture from being damaged. Beyond the typical packing tape, and moving boxes, there are other things that need to be considered when buying moving gear.

Moving pads are one thing to be considered. These can be fit onto the sides of the washer and dryer, and taped down. They can also be used to move the fridge and stove. These could be reused on many different items throughout a local move.

Keeping the house in tact when leaving is a priority, and keeping the new house looking great is even more important.

Hiring a reputable moving service is a good place to start. Check online and local reviews of the company you plan to use. Also check into the company’s policies to find out what they will take responsibility for, in the event that something goes wrong. Don’t forget to read the small print before signing: sometimes, people have no idea what they are signing up for when they sign and date a contract. Read it to make sure you feel comfortable with the terms. If friends are helping move, make sure the more experienced one help with the larger, more risky moves. Moving a couch or dresser up and down stairs should be delegated to the people who are strong enough for the job, while being careful to keep from banging up the house.

Once the new house has been moved into and painted, bring out the box of items that will definitely be used. Get these items out and situated first. Figure out what new things are needed next. Once any new items are put up, figure out what other decor things from the old house will be used.

Putting a few items together that will definitely be used, and putting the rest of the items in a place that is out of the way but accessible is a great system. It is helpful by keeping the living room from being filled with unnecessary boxes. It also helps by keeping all the decor items accessible, without putting pressure on the new homeowners that every single item has to be used.

When trying to get settled in to a new home, people often try to put up all the same decorations that were present in the prior house. However, quite often, a new home or apartment has a different feel than the last house. Try to get the new place to feel like home, but also allow it to take on a new feel. Each place that a person lives in should have the same signature feeling of that person’s home, while having its own unique atmosphere.

Before the move, evaluate which decor items will be used in the next house. Make a few moving boxes that have the things that will definitely be used in the next house. This might include the family picture album that always sits on the coffee table, a plaque with a favorite saying on it, or some timeless photographs. Pack the rest of the decor items in separate boxes. Pictures off the wall can go in one box. (Make sure this is a heavy duty box, and make sure to use bubble wrap around each individual frame.) Curtains can all go in another box. Even if the old curtains aren’t going to be used, pack them. The plan might not be to use them, but it will be good to have them all together and accessible, in case of problems with ordering new curtains. Items like candles, vases, and other fragile things can be boxed together, with heaviest items on bottom. Make sure to clearly mark these boxes as fragile, and to have an arrow indicating which side is the top. These boxes should be marked to be put somewhere accessible. They can go somewhere like the basement, or in the front of the garage pile of boxes. They should be put somewhere that is out of the way, but can still be easily dug into.

If at all possible, having them stay with family or friends until everything is at least unloaded, and their beds and dressers are set up can be a healthy alternative to having them feeling completely up-turned in the new living situation.

Many times, children are left out of the physical packing of the moving boxes process, and for good reason – they are simply too small for the task! If there is a way to arrange for a fun overnight stay with someone not involved with the actual moving process, this might be something to consider; especially if they could stay with people who they will not be able to see as often, post-move. Then, when they do arrive at their new home, they will feel more welcomed into their space, as all of their furniture and “stuff” will be set up and in their own space. It may not all be unpacked, but at least it is there, waiting to welcome them into a new environment.

Many times, this is not possible. The best alternative is to arrange for someone to be able to focus their time on the kids, not on the move itself. Take them for a tour of their new town and visit a local park until their space is ready. Whatever option is feasible, remembering to plan for them will speak volumes to their little hearts that they were considered.
