Moving can be extremely hectic. Packing boxes, sorting through stuff you forgot you even had, trying to make sure that you will be able to find everything once you are living in your new home. You don’t want to pack things you might need before moving and you don’t want a bunch of stuff sitting around until the last minute. A great way to avoid clutter and the last minute rush is to pre-pack. The thought of packing early might bring visions of a house covered in half full boxes to mind! But really, if its done right, it can save you from a frantic rush the 24 hours leading up to moving time.
About six weeks before you plan to move, stock up on moving boxes and moving supplies. Other than boxes you will probably need to get plenty of packing tape, some newspapers/ packing paper, and bubble wrap. It is also helpful to have permanent markers and blank labels on hand for marking the boxes. Make a “moving boxes station” somewhere in your house, to keep your whole house from getting cluttered. It makes sure that moving supplies are easy to find, and hard to lose.
Now do a mental sweep through your house. To efficiently pre-pack, think of all the areas that store rarely used items. The top cupboards in the kitchen are a great example. Divide these spaces into one hour segments and conquer. By clearing a corner by the back door, or in the garage, you will have a space to store the full moving boxes, keeping them out of the way.

The evolution of moving boxes has taken on new conveniences to lend a helpful hand to the mover. Pirates transported their valuables in chests with locks and keys, and even hundreds of years later, while one size boxes tied in jute rope may have served its purpose, the sexy, sleek moving boxes of today serve multi-purposes in more efficient (less back breaking) ways.
Size: Moving boxes are manufactured in a variety of sizes to help protect the contents based on simple scientific physics; the less room to move about with the space, the less likelihood of damage occurring. In addition to a small, medium or large structure, moving boxes have taken on such modern forms as to accommodate an entire wardrobe with a hanging bar in place for hangers. There are options currently in place to eliminate time, packing, and disorganization of clothing. Awkward size items like lamps, televisions and microwaves have all inspired the moving box companies to meet these needs with innovative construction of cardboard boxes.
Protection: Boxes for moving are now also equipped with more than old newspaper for padding. Moving supplies such as Bubble wrap, protective blanketing and foam, packing peanuts and dividers are all effective ways to keep fragile from breaking. Years ago, rope used to serve as a securing device as well as handles for carrying large moving boxes. Modern day moving boxes include cut out handles for easy carrying and are secured in a variety of duct tape, a strong adhesive solution to keeping a box closed. Duct tape has taken a fast track from closing a box, to labeling it as well. On the market today are more than 30 different colors available, utility grade tape and tape that has text on the adhesive to help identify the contents of the box. Aside from the cardboard moving box structures, and its supply affiliates, moving companies have widened their field of marketing into the wide world of lock boxes. Lock boxes are an unspoken necessary part of transporting sensitive valuables.

Purchase Moving Supplies: Many moving companies online offer kits for purchase to suit your needs, but it is recommended that after you evaluate what you’ll need you build your own custom kit. There are a few helpful tips to lend when packing specific items. Purchase glassware boxes that are sold with dividers in place to help eliminate breaks and large chunks of time wrapping your fragile stemware in newspaper. Moving supplies such as protective blankets and covers are also available also for purchase, though not deemed necessary if you have a spare to use. Protective features of packing supplies can be some of the most helpful items to put in your online shopping cart, especially if you don’t intend to increase your insurance for the move. Moving boxes specifically built to encapsulate mirrors, electronics, and appliances are a few of the perks to buying moving boxes thru a moving company. Additional moving supplies and features listed that are often forgotten are packing tape, bubble wrap, sharpies or labeling markers and a utility knife to re-open these precious parcels.
Label your moving boxes. As stated before, when labeling boxes for moving, scratch a brief description of the contents of the moving box, along with a room location. When marking your packed boxes, use labels as a way of giving yourself (and anyone else who is helping with the move) some brief instructions. This will eliminate time wasted trying to arrange your boxes after they’ve all been brought into your new home.
Give yourself a plan b: Ideally everything will run seamlessly, but realistically there may be some obstructions to hurdle. Communicate with and keep another moving company on file, with a list of names and numbers in your wallet in case of an emergency.
Although relocating can be a gigantic life shift, it needn’t be a hairy stress ball. Is it work? Yes, of course, it is. But with a little bit of careful consideration, it doesn’t have to steal the joy out of a fresh start and a new season.

When considering your packing plan for a move, it’s tempting to feel overwhelmed at how many parts of life need to be compartmentalized into small, medium and large card board moving boxes. Here are a few steps that will help ensure that your important garb gets sorted, organized, protected and transported – only to come to life again in your new home.
De-clutter: It’s a rule that has nothing to do with moving boxes or trucks, but nonetheless is an essential part of the moving experience. Donate, sell or throw away anything in your current household that doesn’t function or doesn’t serve you better. This is the most time consuming part of any move, but will cause the rest of your journey to fly on autopilot. Upon finishing the purge, you will have less to move, less to carry, less to unpack, and fewer packing supplies to purchase.
Assess your needs: Taking inventory of your household items after you’ve sifted them helps you conclude what is needed in moving supplies. Start categorizing by room, linking like things together. Categorizing by room instead of by items will help in the unpacking process. For example, boxes labeled “books” can be opened and tediously dispersed into the rooms of your house according to relevance. But a box labeled “Books, kitchen” will easily find its home in a snap and you’ll be ready for the next moving box.

Plan to Pack. Obtaining a floor plan of your new residence is a helpful step in planning the layout and sifting thru your current household items. Moving is an excellent opportunity to reorganize, and restructure. Clear out items that will not serve you in your new residence. Donate or sell out dated items. This gives you breathing room to enter into your new residence without unnecessary clutter.
Hire a mover. Before you hire, know what you’re looking for. Assess your needs. Are you moving across the country or across town? Do you require a moving employee to drive the truck, help unload? Think thru the man power aspect of transporting your life. Choose a mover that can serve your needs as their client. Many movers pride themselves in being a family business or a trained business. Moving is no meat head career. It takes strategy and precision and caution. Hire someone who knows what they’re doing. In addition, find out if you will need to purchase more insurance for the move.
Purchase your moving supplies. Give due allowance of time for shipment when ordering moving boxes, bubble wrap, protection blankets, tape, moving supplies etc. Many moving companies will offer these amenities as part of their services for an additional cost. Lock boxes are also generally available for important documentation protection via the moving company of your choice. If options are unavailable through your company, many online moving businesses provide options. Ordering online is convenient and moving supplies can be shipped directly to your home. Be aware that you will be covering the shipping fee and taxes.
Keep good records. Make sure you establish a file for all your transactions, emails and receipts related to the move.
Finally, complete any home improvements or repairs that you have committed to do. Consider hiring a cleaning service to save on time and effort.

Listed among the top 40 stressful events in one’s life, relocating residences made the cut. Changing employers or careers and getting married are also stated on the same list. It’s a funny phenomenon; most life shifts piggyback stress on top of stress. Moving: It’s something most people dread, never the less, a necessary course of action needed to match a vital life shift. Here are few helpful tips to assist the mover in a major life transition without wanting to bail before the new season begins.
It’s worth it. Whatever the reason you are relocating, the end is worth the means. Be it a new job, a new relationship, or a new education, relocation is the means by which a new world is opening up to you. Change is the tool that is needed in self discovery and growth as well as an opportunistic page turning to create new habits, new relationships, and new lifestyles. Moving can be the launching pad into positive change. Keep this on the forefront of your mind as you begin the practical steps in transferring life from one place to the next.
Preparation brings peace. Giving ample amounts of time to mentally prepare can save you sleepless nights in the long run. Start making comprehensive lists and give yourself enough time to accomplish each task. Typically organizing a move takes 8 to 12 weeks of preparation time.
Move your life on paper. Packing boxes is just part of the process. Transferring license plates for out of state moves, getting drivers licenses updates, contacting lenders, banks and all existing accounts with new information and requesting medical and school records are just some of the documentation work that needs to be done when moving out of state. Make a running list of people you need to inform of an address change. This is the part of moving that can seem mundane, but is so necessary in transferring, not just your possessions but your identity.

Moving companies are expanding their marketing trucks and moving boxes into a wide field of labelers, specialized inserts and moving supplies packaging material to help protect your most fragile items. All of these products are part and parcel of selling the mover more than just boxes- an entire seamless experience altogether. In addition, the moving boxes sold to contain your goods are sized to fit the truck that is being rented like a hand in a glove. Aside from furniture, all other belongings are boxed and stored in a puzzle-like manner whose pieces fit perfectly.
Moving boxes can be purchased to fit 19 inch, 27 inch or flat screen televisions, abnormal sized lamps, kitchen appliances, bedroom sets, mirrors, and much more. But be leery, some of these moving supplies kits, for families with four bedroom houses or more, can be in the upward $500 range, undisclosed shipping costs and tax.
Outside of taking savvy precautions to make sure you know what you’re buying upfront, most companies will buy back unused moving boxes so as not to incur unnecessary costs on overhead. And you may find that a system set into place for you is well worth the extra cash.

Most people face the biggest problem while packing to move is how to pack kitchen equipment and utensils. There are lots of things inside a kitchen and a proper system is required so that you do not leave anything behind. Best way to go about it is to fill labeled plastic bag with items from different drawers and cupboards. Similar things are grouped together and are then should be placed inside corresponding moving boxes. Do not forget to carefully pad a stack of dishes with plastic bubble wrap to avoid breakage while being transported in a truck. A small jolt can put a crack in the entire stack. Delicate items should be packed carefully. After packing, go from cupboard to cupboard and ensure nothing is left behind.
Things that might be needed right after moving in should be packed in labeled boxes. You might even want to put priority numbers on the boxes that will help you to find important things easily. Things such as tools and other hard ware should be placed in a separate and accessible box. Similarly all small electronic gadgets should be packed together, and correspondingly labeled, and the box should be kept as such it is easy to find. All wires and extension cords go in another box. All other big hardware that can be dismantled should be dismantled in smaller components and packed into boxes. Take care to carefully place all the screws in a plastic bag before placing them into a box.
Use empty rooms to stack the boxes in an organized manner that would facilitate the process of loading them into the moving truck. After all the boxes have been loaded and you are about to leave, you should check each and every room for things that you might have left behind. Take the suitcases containing your personal belongings with you in your car.
Of course when you actually start packing to move, you realize how big a job it is. But a little bit of planning and a little bit of organized effort is all you need to make it as simple as possible. Following these simple guidelines will help you in making your packing experience a pleasant one.
